The British Safety Council Honors OSI Group

OSI Group is one of the most respected companies in the world’s food processing industry. Despite its humble start as small meat shop serving some parts of Chicago, the group has grown to be the largest supplier of processed meat products to leading food outlets like Papa John’s, Pizza Hut, Starbucks, and Subway Sandwich.

At present, the meat processing company is listed in the United States’ top 100 companies. It operates over 65 subsidiaries in the UK, Brazil, Hungary, Netherlands, Japan, Australia, and other parts around the world. It employs more than 20,000 workers.

In 2016, the British Safety Council honored OSI Group with the Globe of Honor Award, an accolade that is given to companies that exhibit exceptional practices in environmental conservation.

The company received the most prestigious award alongside other 18 companies that operate in the world’s manufacturing sector. One of the company’s executives, Sheldon Lavin, has expressed his commitment to the company’s dedication to sustainable business development.

According to Lavin, the company remains committed to embracing upcoming technologies, which are geared towards the promotion of innovative ideas in enhancing environmentally friendly production practices.

Speaking after the Awards luncheon held at Drapers Hall, Kelly Grimwood, one of OSI’s administrators said that they were honored to receive the award. “Our company has been dedicated to protecting the environment in which it operates. We are always hunting for new effective ways to enhance our environmental sustainability impact,” said the administrator.

This was not the first award accorded to the leading food company. It had won the Globe of Honor Award in 2013 and 2015. 2016’s prize was a confirmation that OSI was indeed dedicated to conserving the environment.

Why did OSI Group receive the 2016 award? All OSI Group’s subsidiaries in Europe and UK had the ISO 14001 certification. The accreditation is given to institutions that have the most practical environmental management standards.

In addition to the accreditation, OSI had sponsored multiple workshops tailored to spread environmental conservation awareness in the community it served. Mike Robinson, the CEO of the British Safety Council, presented the accolade to Kelly Grimwood, OSI’s ecological manager in Europe.
