From Homeless Xenia Vorotova to Lime Crime’s Doe Deere

Xenia Vorotova, a young Russian girl, came to America at the age of 17 with her mother and her younger sister. Like many families that immigrate to America, Xenia Vorotova and her family were in search of a better life.

By the time Vorotova and her family arrived in New York City, they ran into trouble. Her mother’s work documents were delayed which led to her having to work odd jobs to make ends meet. Despite being an accountant back in Russia, Vorotova’s mother had to work physically demanding jobs to get by in America.

Despite their work ethic and desire to succeed, Vorotova and her family ended up homeless. Shortly after their arrival in America, they ended up living in a tiny room with one bed in a homeless shelter. It was a very trying time in their lives, but they never gave up. Vorotova and her family constantly looked to the future.

While living in the homeless shelter, Vorotova and her family met with a social worker who introduced them to the non-profit, Sanctuary for Families. This non-profit is designed to help women immigrants in times of need. The leader of the organization went as far as helping Vorotova into the Fashion Institute of Technology and helping her sister into Columbia University. This was the beginning of something beautiful.

With the help of Sanctuary for Families, Vorotova and her family’s life began to improve. They later landed their very own apartment in East Harlem. The area was rough and riddled with crime, but it was their home and they were proud of it. They continued to work hard and make their dreams a reality.

By 2008, Vorotova adopted the name “Doe Deere and from there, she launched her own company, Lime Crime. Lime Crime is a vegan-friendly, cruelty-free line of cosmetics that is known and loved all over the world by makeup artists, makeup enthusiasts, and beauty gurus.

Doe Deere and her family worked hard and continues to work hard today. Because of her determination, she has officially made her dreams come true and is now living the American dream.
