Beto O’Rourke, who is running for a Senate seat in Texas, is creeping closer to victory. His opponent, Ted Cruz, continues to embarrass himself as election time comes closer. O’Rourke, who is supported by End Citizens United, is somewhat unknown in Texas;however, Ted Cruz is losing popularity quick.
Throughout all of 2018, Beto O’Rourke’s poll numbers have been growing. Ted Cruz still had a 20 point lead on O’Rourke at the beginning of the year, but now some polls have O’Rourke within just 5 points. Ted Cruz has been getting in his own way all year. Recently, when social media companies banned Alex Jones, the famous conspiracy theorist, from their platforms, Ted Cruz spoke up in favor of Alex Jones. In a tweet Ted Cruz said he disagreed with Facebook’s decision to remove Infowars videos from their website.
Citizens of Texas had already grown stale of Ted Cruz after his failed run for POTUS. Since then his reputation of putting his own interests ahead of Texas citizens has grown. There are a variety of things wrong with Ted Cruz, leading to his decreasing popularity. Beto O’Rourke is taking full advantage of Cruz’s fall in popularity.
O’Rourke is just one of the candidates being supported by End Citizens United. The organization is also standing behind Elizabeth Warren, Angus King, and Sherrod Brown this election season.
End Citizens United began after the 2010 Supreme Court decision in favor of Citizens United. This decision changed the political landscape in America. It made it possible for corporations to purchase elections. Rich companies are now able to donate near endless amounts of money to a politician of their choice. The organization was founded in 2015.
In August, four more candidates got End Citizen United’s stamp of approval. These politicians are Alyse Galvin, Diane Bush, Kathleen Williams, and Jennifer Wexton.
