U of Texas Salutatorian Dr. Jennifer Walden Specializing in Helping Women’s Self Confidence

Austin native Jenifer Walden is one of the limited numbers of female plastic surgeons practicing in Texas. As a Texan, she attended the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston graduating as the salutatorian of her class. After, she completed an aesthetic surgery fellowship at the Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital in New York. Then she returned to her hometown in Texas where she has been practicing exclusively in cosmetic surgery. The surgeries she focuses on are face lifts, eye lifts, rhinoplasties, and breast augmentations.

Dr. Walden has said she feels she has some advantages being a female surgeon since 91 percent of all cosmetic surgeries are performed on women and the majority of women are not attempting to create the look men perceive ideal. They are looking at surgery as a way to change parts of their body that become embarrassing with age and sag or from going through childbirth. She says that many of her patients tell her they feel more comfortable discussing their concerns and the kind of surgery they are considering because she is a woman.

Doctor Walden said she is honest with her patients rather than giving them sympathy she has experienced some of the changes from childbirth after having twins. Though she says she probably will never have breast augmentation she will probably some day have a diastasis repair, since her abdominal muscles spread carrying the twins that are now seventeen months old. She does confide that one of her worries returning home is that it was not Manhattan, Dallas or even Houston. But she has found her worries unfounded with her chosen practice in the medical field. One question she is asked is why she chose to specialize in cosmetic surgery and her answer is that she wanted to help women to improve themselves, to have self-confidence they never thought they would.
